Switzerland has a long history of neutrality and has not been at war since 1815. This is about to change.  The Swiss yesterday overwhelmingly voted to ban the construction of minarets in their country. The Swiss view minarets as symbols of religious and political power, which they fear, will ultimately result in Sharia Law in Switzerland.

With this action, Switzerland has lost its neutrality. According to The Hague Convention governing neutral countries, Switzerland is in clear violation of Article 46:  ”Family honor and rights, the lives of persons, and private property, as well as religious convictions and practice, must be respected.”

This article applies to times in peace and war. While Switzerland is currently at peace with Islamic Jihadists, that undoubtedly has the potential to change without prior notice.

The international press and governments predictably condemned the Swiss voters.

This vote follows the restlessness of the citizens of England, France, Germany and other European nations who all have tangled with the “islamization” of their countries. The stated preference of their recent immigrants to replace the world’s oldest democracies with sharia law is troublesome to all and has not gone unnoticed by the Swiss voters.

The religious persecution of Christians and the difficulty of building churches in Islamic countries have been well documented for decades. That also played a role in the mind of the 1,534,054 Swiss voters advocating the ban on minarets.  In the view of the Swiss voters, the Islamic community in Switzerland can not ask for tolerance given their intolerance to wholeheartedly accept the political system of their host country.

The fear of retribution from Islamic extremists forces publishers to cancel books, news organizations to retract articles and governments to pay lip service. Denmark knows the price for a bad joke.

Expectedly, the Swiss are labeled racist and intolerant throughout the Muslim world. Equally expectedly, European governments and news organizations jump on the bandwagon for their own good.
If you think the Swiss are racist then take a trip to Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and see for yourself.

With their vote, the Swiss gave up neutrality, essential human rights and freedom of religion to preserve their right to democracy, a system that they have cherished with few interruptions since the year 1291. That is about 200 years before Christopher Columbus discovered America.

I tip my hat to the Swiss voters to protect their heritage and way of life and hope other western nations will have the guts to stand up to preserve their way of life before it is too late.
