CNN News is kind of like that little kid in the news business who most people don't care about nowadays because most of their commentators tend to not say such outrageous things. It seems like today within the twenty four news cycle you have to have both your commentators and your news people spewing off the wall garbage in order to people to pay attention to you and to draw good ratings. They do have Lou Dobbs who just across as a cranky old man who is made at whoever is in power. He is willing to oppose any piece of legislation just so he can have something to talk about on his show. Frankly, the only bill that I have ever seen Dobbs get excited about was a bill that would e-verify the employment status of a worker. The bill is being sponsored by North Carolina Congressman named Heath Shuler.

The same can be said for one of their other commentators, that being Jack Cafferty. Cafferty usually goes on his rant about how the government isn't working for the common working person. He loves to rant and rave about lobbyists and the special interest groups that control Washington. He then proceeds to share e-mails that usually agree with him about how screwed up the government is. The e-mails always seem to come from grumpy folks as well. Although Cafferty's opinions are much better than the mundane and sometimes ignorant remarks that Wolf Blitzer makes when he claims to be reporting the "news" the commentaries Cafferty offers still leave plenty to be desired.

I guess CNN simply has to have some crazy things occasionally said on the air. If they have a show that tries to actually report the news in a fair and balanced way relatively speaking it tends to get canceled. Just take a look at what happened to Paula Zahn Now in 2007. They do tend to try to bring in some semblance of balance with the show No Bias, No Bull featuring Campbell Brown. These shows tend to be just places for talking heads to go and yell at one another. Remember that this was the network where the show Crossfire was born. Although I enjoyed some of the crazy, off the wall things that James Carville would say and I respected Robert Novak as a journalist Crossfire was no place for legit, civil discussion of the issues.
